Directive to Disconnect Switches, Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) and Super Agents from NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP) Outwards System

To commemorate with CBN on the 2019 Global Money Week, NIBSS in collaboration with BestMan Games Initiatives setup ELECTRONIC PAYMENT FINANCIAL LITERACY CLUBS in five public schools within Lagos State. The core objectives of this project is to sensitize, notify and educate children and the youth on the availability of easy and accessible electronic payment channels to make and receive payment while promoting personal financial literacy from an early age. This year’s edition of Global Money Week held in March and was flagged off by NIBSS with the deployment of Electronic Payment Monopoly Board Games alongside other financial literacy materials and piggy banks to selected public schools in Lagos. It is expected that this initiative will highlight, entertain, empower and educate these young ones whose parents have been identified as financially excluded on the different electronic payment channels and the financial services available for them. This initiative is expected to sustain the Electronic Payment Financial Literacy clubs to be an Annual Initiative which will form part of extracurricular activities in public secondary schools.

Beneficiaries of this maiden edition of Financial Literacy Clubs Setup include; • Akande Dahunsi Memorial School, Ikoyi • Ireti Junior Grammar School, Obalende • Eric Moore Senior High School, Surulere • Government Senior College, Eric Moore • Iponri Senior High School, Surulere

The school clubs were equipped with Electronic Payment Monopoly Boards, Piggy Banks, Financial Literacy Student Manual & Workbooks, Financial Literacy Teachers’ Manuals, Financial Literacy Train the Teacher Manuals as well as Award Certificates for the students when the graduate from the club.

As part of the kit, the initiative also consist one trained school official in each of the schools. The responsibility of this official is to inaugurate the Financial Literacy club student members each term, train and mentor the students on all the activities.

Members of the Executive Management of NIBSS as well as the Managing Director of BestMan Games Initiative who were present at the convening of the schools; emphasized on the available Electronic Payment channels as well as a Saving Culture while encouraging the students to save for a rainy day. On their part, the Lagos State District Representative, Principals of the Schools as well as the Students expressed their profound gratitude for the Initiative; with appreciation to CBN and NIBSS for selecting their schools amongst the numerous public schools in Lagos State to be beneficiaries of this Financial Literacy Club
